Daniel Ernest Tanner (born 1957, portrayed by Bob Saget, John Posey in the unaired pilot) ==Summary== Daniel Ernest Tanner (born 1957, portrayed by Bob Saget, John Posey in the unaired pilot), one of the show's four main protagonists, is left with three young daughters to raise after his wife, Pam, dies from a car accident caused by a drunk driver. At the beginning of the series, he works as a sportscaster for Channel 8 News. He is chosen (in season two) to be a co-host for the station's new morning talk show, Wake Up, San Francisco, with Rebecca Donaldson. While Rebecca is on maternity leave, Danny ends up falling in love with her co-host replacement, Vicky Larson. The two of them begin dating and later become engaged. However, Vicky ended up getting her dream job of anchoring network news in New York, but a long distance relationship didn't work for either of them, so they break up. Much of the humor surrounding Danny's character comes from his obsession with cleaning and cleanliness. Danny can often be found cleaning for cleaning's sake, sometimes even cleaning his cleaning products. As a matter of fact, "spring cleaning" is his Christmas. His quirkiness and generally "unhip dad" personality are also targets for humor. He is, however, a skilled pool and dart player and guitarist. Like most other characters, he generally cannot stand Kimmy Gibbler. He is the archetype of the "not hip dad" or the "uncool" character. He sees himself as the "raddest baddest" dad ever (which his daughters don't agree with him on). In episodes like Ol Brown Eyes in season 4 or To Joey with Love in season 8, Danny wants to show the others that he can be really cool like Jesse. The rest of the family generally tends to disagree with him. In Ol Brown Eyes, when Danny is dressed like a girl, DJ finds him to be embarrassing. And she has a reasonHe is also obsessed with cleaning. In the episode Honey I Broke The House, Danny even cares more about the mess that Stephanie made more than the fact that she drove Joey's new car through the kitchen wall. However, in the episode The Trouble with Danny in season 5, he decided to find a balance between clean and dirty. In the episode Joey Goes Hollywood, he revealed that his favorite scent is Lemon Pledge. Danny's overprotective of D.J., Stephanie, and Michelle. He has a habit of spoiling Michelle and treating her like a baby.He seems to have a lot of authority on his daughters. They're afraid of what his reactions are going to be like in the episode The Hole In The Wall Gang in season 4. In Joey Gets Tough in season 2, Danny teaches Joey about authority. Jesse, on the other hand, tends to conflict with Danny's authority figure like in Please Don't Touch The Dinosaur in season 6 or in Fogged In in season 2.
